According to the U.S. State Department\, 600\,000 to 800\,000 people are trafficked across international borders every year\, of which 80% are female and half are children. Between 14\,500 and 17\,500 people are trafficked into the U.S. Human trafficking is the third largest international crime industry (behind illegal drugs and arms trafficking). It reportedly generates a profit of $32 billion dollars every year; of that\, $15.5 billion is made in industrialized countries. Join us on Tuesday\, December 6\, at 12 p.m. EST\, for our second Hesburgh Service Initiative webinar of this cycle focusing on issues of immigrants and refugees. Christine Cervenak\, Associate Director of the Center for Civil and Human Rights and Concurrent Assistant Professor in Notre Dame’s School of Law and Sr. Ann Oestreich\, IHM\, of the Alliance to End Human Trafficking\, will present on their work to combat human trafficking. Her experience with youth drew her to a strong commitment to address issues related to human traf cking. She has addressed this issue with her church family and the surrounding communities of Upper Darby via the Human Trafficking Symposiums. DESCRIPTION:An in-depth look at the fantasies of pornography that drive purchasers & lure victims into sex trafficking. \n\n\n\n\nPresenter: Sandra Morgan\, RN\, PhD \nDr. Morgan’s expertise on human traf cking is recognized globally. As the Director of Vanguard University’s Global Center for Women and Justice (GCWJ)\, she works to extend global impact and build capacity for research\, education and advocacy directly related to the exploitation of women and children. She served as Administrator of the Orange County Human Traf cking Task Force (OCHTTF) for nearly three years. As a Pediatric nurse\, her rst sex traf cking victim was a 14 year old boy. \n\n\nShe has presented on Commercial Sexual Exploitation of children (CSEC) to the Orange County Grand Jury\, California Juvenile Justice Commission\, at universities\, conferences\, and law enforcement and healthcare provider trainings. She currently serves on Foreign Affairs Chair Congressman Ed Royce’s Anti Human Traf cking Advisory Committee as well as on the steering committee for the Faith Alliance against Slavery and Traf cking (FAAST). \n\n\n\n\nSee the attached flyer for information on a webinar entitled\, “Fantasy or Reality: The Pornography-Sex Trafficking Link\,” to be hosted by the Religious Alliance Against Pornography. SUMMARY:13th Annual International Human Trafficking and Social Justice Conference
DESCRIPTION:Since 2004\, The Annual International Human Trafficking and Social Justice Conference has been bringing together researchers\, practitioners\, and individuals with lived experience in an effort to lay the groundwork for future collaborative research\, advocacy\, and program development. \n\n\n\nTo date\, the trafficking conference has welcomed presenters from 31 states and 15 countries to educate social service\, health care\, and criminal justice professionals on human trafficking and the needs and risk of victims\, as well as their customers\, and traffickers. \nRecently\, there have been many new and exciting opportunities for expansion regarding the conference\, which includes a name change because of a larger mission. Last year the conference title was changed to the Annual International Human Trafficking & Social Justice Conference. The concept of social justice will expand topics at the conference to include many of the injustices seen in the world today. \nWe greatly appreciate those who have brought the conference this far. Change is hard\, but is also necessary. All are welcome to join us in sharing knowledge and diverse perspectives at the conference.
