By presidential proclamation, January is National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month. January 11 is Human Trafficking Awareness Day in the United States as a result of a 2007 resolution by the United States Senate, making the day one of awareness and vigilance for the numerous victims of Human Trafficking that occurs around the world. In December 2014, Pope Francis called on Faith Leaders around the world to assist in bringing an end to this modern day form of slavery. These powerful reminders that labor and sex trafficking endures in the United States and worldwide compel us to work together to end this modern form of slavery.
The community is invited to attend the 4th Annual Human Trafficking Prayer Service on Tuesday, January 19, 2016, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Ursuline Center, 4035 Indian Road, Toledo, Ohio. The Prayer Service is sponsored by the Ursuline Sisters and Associates of Toledo and STOP! (Stop Trafficking of Persons).
Every day, women, men and children in the United States and around the world are subjected to forced labor, domestic servitude or the sex trade at the hands of human traffickers for commercial gain. The Prayer Service is a spiritual way to address the human trafficking issue.
Networking tables and light refreshments will be available after the Prayer Service. For more information, please contact Sr. Pat Gardner at pgardner@sistersosf.org or 419-824-3604.
