March, 2021 Monthly Reflection
“They were driven by an abhorrence of the idea that one individual could own another.”
By Maryann Mueller, CSSF
Several years ago, I read Sue Monk Kidd’s book The Invention of Wings. I was halfway through the book when I realized that it was based on the lives of two real-life women, Angelina and Sarah Grimke. Reading the book gave me the impetus to learn more, and soon after, I traveled to the Women’s Rights Museum in Seneca Falls, New York, where they displayed several of the women’s documents.
As we commemorate Women’s History Month, I offer this short PowerPoint for your reflection. Angelina Grimke is one of many women upon whose shoulders we stand. At the end of the PowerPoint, please take a moment and lift up in silent prayer the name of a woman (or more than one) who has inspired you to be “driven by an abhorrence of the idea that one individual could own another.”
